The McMahon family opened the shop in 2010, after retiring from the fashion industry, and it remains in the family today, managed by Zoe McMahon. I've always believed that great design is about finding balance. Raised on a rural property outside of Geelong into a prominent fashion family, my childhood was split beautifully between the freedom of farm life and the fast-paced world of style. I launched my own label — a venture that allowed me to travel the world and sharpen my eye for texture, colour, and layering. But I am a country girl at heart, and my love for nature eventually called me back to the land.
Today, floristry is my world and my ultimate form of artistic expression. I've assisted international floral designers at the Melbourne and Singapore Garden Festivals, and I've been fortunate to be mentored by Dot Humphreys AIFD FDA — my inspiration and flower mother — whose guidance opened the doors to working within international hotels across Melbourne. I've also worked as an industry trainer, sharing technical skills and supporting those entering the trade.

The Red Poppy keeps me connected to the community, while my true passion lies at the drawing board — designing bespoke arrangements from scratch. Whether I'm harvesting a small selection of home-grown blooms from my garden or bringing a client's unique vision to life, I am entirely in my element.
